London, United Kindgom - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - September 28, 2007 - Internet registry for .TK domain names, Dot TK, has made its API available for open source Internet application developers worldwide.

The Dot TK API allows developers to register domain names with the .TK extension, directly from their own application. Unlike other domain name registries, such as .COM and .CO.UK, Dot TK is the only domain name registry that offers domain names for free. Using the Dot TK API, domain names with the .TK extension can be registered directly with a simple API call. In most cases this will happen as a background process, inside the application made by the developer.

Maurice van der Meer, CTO of Dot TK added, ”We’ve had many requests from our own user community to provide such piece of software. From our new London office we are proud to present this new service to developers worldwide. We welcome everyone to use the API and start registering domain names. The API is easy to use, plus we provide examples and support on our webpage. Currently we have examples in Java, Perl, PHP and Python available.”

Millions of users worldwide are currently using Dot TK. Currently there are 1.6 million active Dot TK domain names registered. Dot TK adds an average of 8,000 new domain names on a daily basis.

Mr. van der Meer continued, ”With the introduction of the Dot TK API, we will make domain name registration available everywhere. Next to .TK domain name registrations, we hope the developer community picks up the API and create great new applications with it; applications we haven’t thought of yet.”

A free Dot TK account is required to start using this powerful tool. Each registration requires a domain name that is not used yet, and a web address (URL) to be renamed to the registered .TK domain. Domain name registrations made using the API work instantly on the Internet.

Recently, the firm officially opened its offices in Soho, London. Using the Dot TK service, customers register domain names at no cost. With Dot TK’s free service, a customer’s website displays visitor tools and some third-party advertising. For a nominal fee a domain name can be upgraded, which grants the user full license rights and enables him to run his own Domain Name System (DNS).

Since its inception in 2005, Dot TK has added more than 1.6 million registered domain names and has become one of the largest domain name registries in the world, adding an average of 8,000 new domain names daily. Dot TK is a joint venture of the Government of Tokelau, its communication company Teletok and Taloha, Inc., a privately held company.
