New York, New York - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - March 7, 2006 - Global domain name registration and web service Register.com, Inc., has introduced its latest offering, r.Protect, designed to safeguard users from revealing their private information online. Small business owners without a physical business address are vulnerable to their name, email, personal home address and phone numbers becoming available to anyone browsing the Internet.

Register.com’s r.Protect solution provides complete anonymity for its users and a review of the WHOIS database on their account yields an anonymous registrant, replacing the registrant’s own name. The WHOIS database is also mined by telemarketing companies who add unsuspecting registrants to their call lists. Register.com helps address this issue by directing telemarketers to use email or postal mail for their inquiries, instead of phone calls.

In addition, an r.Protect physical address to which mail can be sent; a phone number; and a generic, unique and revolving email address that filters spam emails would also be included in the registrant’s WHOIS database record. The r.Protect service will then forward all certified and overnight mail, but will remove general junk mail solicitations.

Monica Hodges, General Manager of Retail at Register.com noted, ”Recent studies have shown that millions of people are vulnerable to identity theft each year and our goal is to reduce that vulnerability for our customers. With all of the uncertainties of operating in an online environment including phishing, spamming and malware, we want to ensure our customers have access to the highest levels of security and privacy. This is another instance in which our premier customer service helps customers through every step of their online experience.”

Specific benefits of the service allow users to: Keep their name, address and phone number private; Avoid unwanted spam messages with generic email addresses that pass through virus and spam filters before being forwarded for review; Cut down on junk mail sent to a home or business address; Stop data miners from exploiting personal data; Put a halt to unwanted phone solicitations; and Maintain control while protecting their identity.

Long-time Register.com customer and personal fitness trainer, Gina Jackson, expressed her desire for the product. ”Since I run my business out of my home I was sure to sign up for r.Protect once it became available through Register.com. I’d prefer not to provide my personal and private information to anyone who chose to peruse a public database. When I signed up the experience was very simple, clean and to the point. I finished in minutes and gained peace of mind.”
