Registration of .eu domain names is intended for companies andorganizations with a presence in one of the EU countries, or for residents ofthese countries.

According to Yoav Keren, CEO of Domain The Net, ”While .eu domain names are intended for companies, organizations and residents of the EU, registering .eu domain names is also significant for companies from other countries that have commercial ties with the EU. The use of a .eu domain is important both for EU companies and for companies outside the EU, in creating their Internet presence in the European market. Additionally, the registration of a .eu domain is extremely important for companies that want to protect their brand names and their intellectual property. The registration of an .eu domain is not intended to replace existing domains (such as .com domains).”

Keren added that since in many cases a .eu domain will be used in addition to a company’s original domain, Domain The Net has decided to set a registration fee of only EUR15 (per year).

Through its website, http://www.domainthenet.com/eu_domain.asp, Domain The Net offers exclusive services to companies without an EU presence. This service is provided in collaboration with a British company, which registers the domains in its own name and serves as the registrant of the domain names. The British company then leases the use of the domains to the interested companies.

Domain The Net launched the .eu pre-registration in Israel (where the company’s headquarters are located), in the presence of the head of the European Commission’s delegation in Israel, Ambassador Ramiro Cibrian-Uzal. According to Ambassador Cibrian-Uzal, ”The launch of .eu is the end of a process led by the European Union, and which one of its aims is to help companies from all over the world to better integrate their activities in EU countries.”
