The Go Daddy Group, Inc., parent company of GoDaddy.com, the No. 1registrar of domain names, today officially announced its entrance intothe dedicated and virtual dedicated server market.

Go Daddy was already a shared hosting provider, but in response tocustomer requests, has expanded its hosting offerings to include themore specialized dedicated and virtual dedicated hosting services.

“We wanted to expand our hosting services to meet the needs of our moretechnically advanced clients,” said Bob Parsons, president and founderof Go Daddy. “After researching the best way to enter the market, wedecided it was absolutely necessary to purchase, configure and maintainthe hardware in-house, with our own engineers. That way, we couldensure our dedicated and virtual dedicated customers receive absolutelythe best support and value. And we are able to provide these advancedhosting services without charging our customers a setup fee orrequiring any long-term contractual commitments.”

Unlike shared hosting plans, in which customers share server space withother users, Go Daddy’s dedicated hosting service provides customerswith their own server, up to three dedicated IP addresses and completecontrol over the server itself. Users have “root access,” which meansthey can install software on the dedicated server, provide access tousers they designate, and more. Dedicated servers are also useful forcompanies, small businesses and individuals that run high-traffic Websites, and thus, need the bandwidth and consistent performance of adedicated server. Dedicated servers can also be used for a variety ofother purposes, such as gaming servers, FTP servers, Internet relaychat servers, etc. Go Daddy’s dedicated servers start at $109/month.

Go Daddy’s virtual dedicated hosting service offers many of thecapabilities and features of dedicated hosting, including administratoraccess and dedicated IP addresses, but at an even lower price. Withvirtual dedicated hosting, the customer shares the server with a smallnumber of other customers, but still retains full control over his/herportion of the server. Go Daddy’s virtual dedicated servers start at$34.95 a month. Discounts of 20% are available for both dedicated andvirtual dedicated server plans when purchased for 12 months in advance.
