.MOBI is a top-level domain (TLD) accredited by ICANN and created specifically for mobile devices by leading mobile operators, network device manufacturers and Internet content providers, designed to make accessing the Internet from mobile devices easier and faster. In the past, long download times, low content quality and excessive scrolling were what mobile users encountered.

With .MOBI, users can expect a more seamless, content-appropriate experience. All customers who register .MOBI domain names through GoDaddy.com, get free hosting and a web site builder. The offer is designed to provide creation tools customers can use to make .MOBI-compliant web sites and host them through GoDaddy.com. For customers not ready to build a web site, a .MOBI domain name can still be pre-registered and parked with a placeholder page, to hold until they are ready.

Also included is a free .MOBI email account that features immediate mobile access through GoDaddy.com’s MobileMail. The mobile Internet is growing, with more than 34.6 million users in June; that’s according to the U.S. Device Census Report for Q2 2006 from Telephia (www.telephia.com).

The .MOBI TLD launched in May with a two-phased Sunrise registration period. During the Limited Industry Sunrise, members of the mobile industry had the opportunity to register their trademarks as .MOBI domain names. During Trademark Sunrise, which began in June and runs until Sept. 22, all other trademark holders are eligible to register their trademarks as .MOBI domain names.
