Scottsdale, Arizona - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - April 11, 2006 - GoDaddy.com CEO, Bob Parsons, in a statement issued on the GoDaddy.com website, has indicated that European registry EURid has engaged in “grand manipulation and lax administration.”

With the onslaught of the recent .eu top-level domain land rush, Mr. Parsons maintains that the situation has enabled countless fake registrars to promote unprecedented scams.

Over a million names within the first twelve hours are estimated to have been taken by the European market. Apparently, EURid specified that ”.eu” was an acceptable alternative to ”.com” and the other domains used in Europe.

Mr. Parsons surmises that a giant loophole enabled one firm to acquire hundreds of positions in line to acquire .eu domains. Mr. Parsons explained, ”Two weeks before the landrush period began there were 800 - many real, many not - accredited .EU registrars. Then just before the landrush period began, Voila! Hundreds more registrars appeared. According to the EURid website - at least 300 more registrars appeared.”

Mr. Parsons continued, ”Many of these names will be auctioned off for thousands of dollars. And of course, the likelihood that Company ”X” will get these names is good because they were responsible for many of the “phantom” registrars created and allowed by the registry. Companies who have successfully gamed the system should make a fortune on the .EU landrush - all at the expense of the Europeans.”

Mr. Parsons also indicates that despite GoDaddy’s attempt to warn EURid of the potential problem, the issue was not dealt with directly due to an unprecendented nuimber of complaints.

After detailing a solution to the problem on his blog on the GoDaddy.com website, he concluded that, ”The problem with the [above] fix is that it would take huevos to step up and implement. This is something that we’ve seen little of from the people at the EURid registry. So we can be sure unless some authority in the European community steps up and forces them to do it, they will do nothing.”
