Mission Viejo, California - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - August 1, 2006 - Google has debuted its ”Google Project Hosting,” for open source projects. The product was developed for software developers, aiming to provide them with the ability to safely keep code on Google servers, track changes, report issues and collaborate with other coders.

”Project Hosting,” part of the Google Code initiative — a website for external developers interested in Google-related development, offers access to open source code and various Google APIs. The service was announced at the O’Reilly Open Source Conference during a talk by Greg Stein, an open source engineer, with Google and Chairman of the Apache Software Foundation.

Similar to other community hosting projects, such as SourceForge.org, the free service tracks project names and disallows duplicates. Based on the subversion revision control application, ”Project Hosting” is still in beta, and lacks some of the SourceForge’s advanced features. Source code of the program will be accessible and the website lists 18 categories, or labels, including Python, Java, C++, XML, and Google.

Google’s innovative search technologies connect millions of people around the world with information every day. Founded in 1998 by Stanford Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Google today is a top web property in all major global markets. Google’s targeted advertising program provides businesses of all sizes with measurable results, while enhancing the overall web experience for users. Google is headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices throughout the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
