Mountain View, California - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - September 2, 2008 - Google search engine company, in keeping with one of its mottos, ”launch early and iterate,” has released information that its engineers have been developing a new open source browser.
Google Chrome was recently revealed through the blogosphere and a comic book, which detailed the new browser application. Google will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome on September 2nd, in over 100 countries.
Because so much time is spent working inside of a browser, Google believed it was an area worth investigating. Search, chat, email and collaboration all takes place in a browser. Even ‘’spare” time is spent navigating the browser, where people engage in ecommerce, bank, read news, network and keep in touch with friends and family.
With all that in mind, Google reports that it began to more seriously contemplate what kind of browser could exist, if it started from scratch and built on the best elements available. Google realized that the web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that it was time to completely rethink the browser. What is really needed, Google surmised, was not just a browser, but also a modern platform for web pages and applications.
Google designed a browser window that is streamlined and simple, realizing that most people aren’t really concerned with the browser itself. It is the function of the browser that matters, as a tool to run the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. As is the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast, designed to stay out of the way, while swiftly getting to information of interest.
As Google explained on its company blog, ”Under the hood, we were able to build the foundation of a browser that runs today’s complex web applications much better. By keeping each tab in an isolated ’sandbox’, we were able to prevent one tab from crashing another and provide improved protection from rogue sites. We improved speed and responsiveness across the board. We also built a more powerful JavaScript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren’t even possible in today’s browsers.”
The Google Chrome beta for Windows is merely a beginning, to start the broader discussion and hear from people as quickly as possible. At present, Google is also building versions for Mac and Linux as well, with the goal to make it even faster and more robust.
Google ackowledges that it owes a great debt to many open source projects, and they are committed to continuing the path. Google has used components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox, among others — and in that spirit, Google is making all of its code open source, as well, hoping to collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward.
The web gets better with more options and innovation. Google Chrome is another option, and it is hoped that Google’s contribution makes the web even better.
