Mountain View, California - (Cheap Web hosting Directory) - February 23, 2006 - As presciently predicted in the September 24, 2004 SitePoint article authored by Derek Vaughan and entitled, ‘Why Google Will Defeat Yahoo! in the Web Hosting War‘, Google has fully entered the shared web hosting market.

Several online sources including Google Engineer, Matt Cutts’ Blog have confirmed that the new web hosting product is currently live and available at: http://pages.google.com. The product is named Google Page Creator, and according to Google as described on the product page:

”Create your own web pages, quickly and easily.

Google Page Creator is a free online tool that makes it easy for anyone to create and publish useful, attractive web pages in just minutes.

  • No technical knowledge required.
Build high-quality web pages without having to learn HTML or use complex software.
  • What you see is what you’ll get.
Edit your pages right in your browser, seeing exactly how your finished product will look every step along the way.
  • Don’t worry about hosting.
Your web pages will live on your own site at http://yourgmailusername.googlepages.com

Google Page Creator is still in an early testing phase. If you’re interested in taking it for a test drive, login with your Gmail account to begin making pages.”

Matt Cutts presents examples of the templates, and his pro-Google analysis of the new product at: http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/google-page-creator/.

Google Page Creator will be shut down this year and old GPC sites will be transitioned to Google Sites:

With Google Page Creator you could upload HTML files and it was much easier to make your pages look exactly the way you wanted using uploaded HTML files and CSS files (or CSS in HTML). With Google Sites you can’t use uploaded HTML files with CSS and you can’t use scripting either.
