Internet Security Systems’ Sept. 11 Online Seminar Demonstrates X-Force Intelligence in ISS Products Used to Combat Latest Worms
ATLANTA – Sept. 10, 2003 – Internet Security Systems, Inc. (ISS) (Nasdaq: ISSX), is holding an online seminar for security officers, network administrators and CIOs on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, to discuss the requirements for effective protection against worms. The online seminar titled, “Proactive Protection for the Desktop: Worms Don’t Have to Win,” will also demonstrate how ISS’ X-Force™ security intelligence enabled RealSecure® Desktop to protect customers from the most recent spate of computer worms.
“Worms will continue evolving to quickly take advantage of vulnerabilities in software and work their way into the network. This makes it critical for security products to have up-to-the-minute protection,” said Chris Rouland, vice president of the ISS X-Force Research and Development Group. “The speed at which protection can be applied to security products, in many cases without publicly available exploit code, is completely dependent on the intelligence gathered by elite security researchers. Without it, even top products won’t be able to stop worms in the future.”
To further education, security research and protection against future attacks, ISS’ online seminar will examine the MS Blaster worm unleashed on Aug. 11, that severely impacted corporate and government networks worldwide. MS Blaster easily bypassed security products that rely on exploit code to update protection, and future worms are expected to make similar inroads against traditional security technologies such as firewalls and antivirus. The seminar will address protection for the desktop in particular, and cover ISS’ process of updating products with the most up-to-date threat and vulnerability information gathered from its world-renowned X-Force research and development team. Unlike other security vendors, ISS products do not have to wait for exploit code to be released and software engineers to rework the code into protection capabilities. With a database of over 10,000 vulnerabilities, X-Force intelligence is constantly integrated into ISS products so proactive protection is always in place even before an attack occurs. This proactive approach focused on the vulnerability is particularly important with regards to worms due to new variants that quickly arise after a new worm is introduced. By specifically focusing protection on the vulnerability a worm is targeting, the customer does not have to constantly be reacting to each new worm variant. The seminar will also cover the X-Force’s expectations for emerging threats throughout the remainder of 2003.
The online seminar begins at 11:00 a.m. EST, Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003. To register, please visit http://www.iss.net/about/events/webinars.php#2.
