Santa Clara, California - (The Hosting News) - October 20, 2005 - ISPCON Fall 2005 is in full swing in Santa Clara, California - having attracted an audience of over 2,600 Internet services and web hosting professionals.

The show consists of educational and professional sessions in addition to a well populated exhibit floor. A walk into the exhibit hall showed great traffic and a number of booths with persons waiting to talk to the professional staff.

A highlight of the show was the keynote address, which was entitled, ”Hosting 2.0: Building the Uber-host”. The address was moderated by noted hosting Attorney, David Snead and included the following panelists:

Warren Adelman, COO, The GoDaddy Group
Robert Marsh, CEO, EV1 Servers
Mark Teolis, CTO, Peer 1 Network
Paul Stapleton, Industry Analyst, ISP Hosting Report

The panel addressed a standing room only crowd estimated at well over 1,000 attendees.

In answer to the question posed by the moderator, Mr. Snead, ”What’s the secret sauce?” the panelists answered as follows (abreviated quotes given below):

Mark Teolis, CTO, Peer 1 Network - ”Trying to be different. Having unique products and services. Also being good at more than 1 thing, and engaging in acquistions that are accretive.”

Warren Adelman, COO, The GoDaddy Group - ”Having affordably priced products, internally developing products (internal staff to respond to customer needs), and soliciting custonmer input. Becoming a ‘1 stop location’ for the customer”.

Robert Marsh, CEO, EV1 Servers - ”Having a great (low price) pricing strategy early on, and then more recently focussing on client control. We offer things that others don’t”.

Paul Stapleton, Industry Analyst, ISP Hosting Report - ”Marketing is the key - have a great ‘go-to-market strategy’. Business plans address sales and marketing if they matter today”.

Another great discussion was spawned by Mr. Snead asking, ”What’s the next big product going to be?”.

Robert Marsh, CEO, EV1 Servers - ”Voice is the next ‘new data’. Digital phone products are hot, prices are coming down on deploying these”.

Warren Adelman, COO, The GoDaddy Group - ”I agree. VoIP is the next big thing. Also, entertainment realted hosted platforms. Hosting will become similar to other utilities. Everyone will have their own personal web space (for blogging or webcasting)”.

Mark Teolis, CTO, Peer 1 Network - ”I’m a contrarian on VoIP. Delivery of rich media and ‘niche entertainment’ via the Internet will boom. You will watch niche content on your computer”.

Paul Stapleton, Industry Analyst, ISP Hosting Report - ”VoIP will explode. It should be given away for free. The money will be made by ‘’storing value” - that is storing something that customers value.”

There continued to be many great exchanges between the panelists, and further elaboration of the current state of the web hosting industry. Several audience questions were posed, and the audience walked away with great insight into the web hosting industry of today.

Tomorrow’s summary will cover a talk given by Lou Honick, CEO of HostMySite.com on delivering great customer service - and also include some thoughts by attendees and the show organizer.
