Limitations of Free Web Hosting

Updated on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 at 3:56 pm

For those of you who want to develop a web site for your business, hobby, or family you need to consider a few things before choosing a web hosting site. Free web hosting sites are for beginners who want to learn how to build a website but they are not meant to be used long term.

There are a number of problems with the web sites that offer free hosting; most have limitations that will inevitably arise. These free sites are better for practice and should not be used to build your business website or any website that you want a large number of visitors to frequent.

Websites that offer these free services have a number of downfalls. The free web hosting limitations include not having much protection to backup the information stored on the web page. They are also not permanent website services and often will disappear. Not to mention that they do not offer any support services for you when you need help.

By choosing a host site that charges a fee you have the ability to decide what your website needs. The most popular hosting site is Godaddy.com; which is very popular due the high quality advertising and business plan put in place.

Godaddy.com is a popular web hosting sight that is well known across the country. Many businesses are now using their web hosting services. The first step is to make sure that no one already has the domain name you want to use. Most people know what they want their domain name to be but if someone else is already using that name then GoDaddy offers alternatives.

Godaddy.com will give you options for alternative names if the name you enter is already taken. They also provide options other than just .com; they have .net, .org, .us, and .biz just to name a few. Their program provides you numerous options as you work through building your web page.

The cost of Godaddy’s web hosting is not that expensive. They offer a number of different plans and all cost less than $20 a month. Using Godaddy.com gives you the ability to create a web page that will attract potential customers and keep their interest. It is important that you develop a page that showcases your products and it should convey professionalism in order to generate an influx of new customers.

Free web hosting sites are great for a beginner to learn the basics. This is a great way to teach yourself rather than having to hire a professional. Using a free website to teach yourself is an inexpensive way to learn. When you are comfortable with your abilities you can then move to a paid host site and build a professional website that will help increase your business.

It’s not hard to find a cheap domain name and web hosting in today’s online market for web hosting services. Competition is fierce. I would suggest to you though to be pay close attention to the other features you get from any hosting company

It is always better to go with cheap web host than free one. If it’s just a hobby site which isn’t generating any revenue, paid host should be option to consider. It is possible to get good hosting service for less than $5 monthly, so why risk and choose free web host?

I differ on the data backup point. Our property should be primarily our own concern, we must ensure regular backup instead of depending on hosting providers. I agree, Goaddy and Hostgator is preferred by many webmasters, but there are many other good hosting merchants too.

Hosting is so cheap…might as well go for a cheap hosting plan on godaddy.

There are a few free web hosts that run PHP/MySQL on your server that give novice developers some pretty good practice for dealing with a hosts configuration and/or limitations. But once you’re ready for your site to actually be seen by the public, you definitely need to hop on board with a professional web host.

There are lots of cheap domain hosting like hostgator and iPowerWeb Premier Web Hosting. Godaddy is also good but there are limited offers only but if you want to have the hosting that you need then better get the premium one.
