Local Search Engine Citysearch Starts 2004 With Fresh Look
Citysearch Site Re-Launch Delivers Advanced Search Capabilities,
Enhanced Navigation and Improved Customer Experience
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ — Citysearch, a leading local search
service, today announced that its website (http://www.citysearch.com) has undergone
a pre-holiday makeover, adding advanced search capabilities, better user
navigation options and an improved experience for customers. Citysearch has
completely revamped its functionality to make search the most prominent
feature on the site, providing much more meaningful results for visitors who
are using the Citysearch site to find the most current information on
restaurants, bars, hotels, shopping and spas in their cities.
Citysearch’s improved search functionality makes it easier for users to
find exactly what they are looking for in their local areas. Users can now
type a term into the keyword search box, for example, "Mexican food," and
Citysearch will list the restaurants in the local area that fit this criteria.
In addition, in the restaurant category users can now use Citysearch’s "Simple
Search" buttons to search by emphasis — cuisine, price or ambience –
narrowing down the level of search detail to provide users with the results
that they are seeking more quickly than ever before. Citysearch has also
added contextually relevant "Editorial Round-ups" to the left-hand side of
search results, highlighting the editorial content that its visitors love,
including "New on the Scene Restaurants," "20 Meals for Under $20" and
"Restaurant and Bar Fireplaces," and making it easy for users to access the
content that Citysearch is best known for providing.
"Citysearch has long led the local online search industry and now we’re
taking it to the next level by making search the focal point of the site and
the main navigation tool," said Andy Shenkler, Citysearch’s vice president of
strategy and search. "The new site functionality makes it easier for visitors
to use Citysearch and get exactly what they are looking for, with a level of
local search detail that is unparalleled online today."
"Citysearch continues to improve upon its user experience," said Greg
Sterling, program director of The Kelsey Group’s Digital Directories:
Interactive Media advisory service. "By effectively integrating the elements
of an online directory with local search, the company has become a leader in
defining where a strong user experience and a competitive business model
intersect."
For customers, Citysearch is now providing additional value by enhancing
customer profiles and providing direct links to the individual customers’ Web
sites, giving Citysearch users direct exposure to the vendors’ sites.
