CLEVELAND, June 20 /PRNewswire/ — The official launch of the top-level Internet domain ”.jobs” was announced at the 57th Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Annual Conference.

”A .jobs domain for your company provides a non-stop route for job seekers to the specific and compelling career information, eliminating distraction or ‘home page’ congestion or confusion,” said Tom Embrescia, Chairman and CEO of Employ Media and .jobs. ”The .jobs domain will compliment and enhance your company’s current best practices in hiring.”

Earlier this year, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) granted approval for the new top-level Internet domain. While SHRM is the sponsor of .jobs, the domain will be operated independently by Employ Media, based in Cleveland, Ohio.

Organizations approved for .jobs domains will be able to lead job candidates directly to career information on their existing web sites, or, if they choose, can develop a site designed specifically to communicate with job seekers. For example, a person looking for a career opportunity at SHRM would simply type in the web address http://www.shrm.jobs to find information and apply.

As of June 19, 2005, organizations can obtain information on how to apply for .jobs domain names by visiting http://www.employmedia.com or contacting a participating registrar. Current registrars include:
http://www.ascio.com
http://www.Directi.com
http://www.domainbank.com
http://www.domainsite.com
http://www.dotster.com
http://www.encirca.com
http://www.enom.com
http://www.markmonitor.com
http://www.name.com
http://www.namesbeyond.com
http://www.register.com

In order to maintain the integrity in the marketplace, .jobs has been approved as a ”restricted” domain, meaning applicants will be subject to a verification process to confirm their identity and role with their employer organization.

The first .jobs domains are expected to be active in late September 2005, following a 90 day start up phase. VeriSign Inc., the current provider of back-end technical operations for .com and .net, will provide similar services for .jobs.
