Cambridge, Massachusetts - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - September 26, 2007 - Domain name marketplace, Sedo, online marketplace for the buying and selling of domain names, has made a $50,000 donation, as well as provided free advertising space, to social change through technology for non-profits firm, Grassroots.org.

The goal of Grassroots.org is to support non-profit organizations, in order to educate citizens on making social impact. Tim Schumacher, Chief Executive Officer at Sedo offered, ”Grassroots.org shares our vision that the Internet and related technology can make a huge, positive difference in the world. We also value its use of generic keyword domain names to inform citizens seeking to both digest and deliver content regarding key social issues.”

The donation will help Grassroots.org meet its ultimate goal is of adopting 10,000 nonprofit members, and providing them each with an average of $10,000 of services per year at no charge for a total savings of $100 million per year. Currently, Grassroots.org operates more than 30 portals, including PlanetEarth.org, Relief.org, Diseases.org, Homeless.org and Philanthropists.org.

Angela Siefer, Executive Director at Grassroots.org added, ”Grassroots.org is very excited about our partnership with SEDO. The generous cash and in-kind donations will help us increase our capacity, generating more traffic on our website and allowing us to provide additional services to more organizations.”

Recently, SEDO powered a live auction for the Domainvermarkter Forum in Hamburg, Germany, where over 50 domain names were sold. Total sales of the three-hour long auction, powered by Sedo, reached $360,400 (USD). Of the 120 present participants, 48 bids were placed. Sedo also ran a live chat client concurrently with the auction that made it possible for an additional 30 people who were not attending the conference to bid. Noteworthy sales from the auction include rzte.de (doctors in German) for $77,000, reiseb ro.de and reise-bro.de (travel agencies in German) for $70,000, hawaii.de for $30,000, and weiber.de (skirts in German) for $26,000.

Sedo, (acronym for ”Search Engine for Domain Offers”), is an online marketplace for buying and selling domain names and websites.
