The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)recently accredited The Planet(SM) as an official domain nameregistrar, authorizing the company to provide a full range of domainname services.

The Planet is making those services available through Orbit(SM), its unique customer portal for remote management and control.

“Receiving ICANN accreditation shows that the industry knows it canexpect best in class solutions from The Planet,” said Sam Fleitman,Vice President of Information Systems for The Planet. “It extends ourofferings to cover even more of customers’ end-to-end hosting needs.”

ICANN manages the Domain Name System, overseeing the distribution of IPaddresses and domain names to ensure each address is unique and eachdomain name maps to the correct address. Accredited registrars mustmeet ICANN’s standards for performance of registration functions andenter into an accreditation agreement detailing Registrar Servicespolicies and procedures.

Through Orbit, The Planet’s existing customers can purchase, register,transfer and manage domain names and services. Those services includechoosing name servers, editing Whois information, changing IPaddresses, setting mail servers, locking domains and editing all domainservice information. The Planet will soon add unlimited e-mailforwarding, forwarding to any website and URL Masking for redirectingdomain names.

“We’re pleased to give customers more control over this dimension ofhosting,” continued Mr. Fleitman. “By making their domain managementeasy and integrating it with their entire solution, we’re helping themconcentrate their resources and attention.”

New .com and .net domain names are immediately available for $5.99 peryear of registration. The Planet will soon offer additional Top LevelDomains (TLDs), such as .org, .info, .biz, and .us. Additionally, ThePlanet is offering free, 24/7 domain services support, by phone, e-mailand through Orbit.
