VeriSign, Inc., (www.verisign.com), a provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks, today announced that the company will offer three-year-term Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificates to enterprises starting in May 2005. The new three-year SSL Certificates will significantly reduce the cost and administrative tasks of deployment, without sacrificing the highest levels of security possible.
SSL is an industry-wide protocol for managing the security of information on the Internet, which uses a public key infrastructure (PKI) system to encrypt data in transmission.
With the increased usage of applications for e-commerce and the exchange personal information online, it is becoming paramount to encrypt and protect Internet data. VeriSign is the leading provider of SSL Certificates, securing over 450,000 enterprises worldwide including over 93 percent of Fortune 500 companies and 47 of the 50 largest e-commerce sites.
“SSL-based security provides the critical conduit through which personal or confidential information is exchanged across the Internet,” said Chad Kinzelberg, vice president, VeriSign Security Services. “Three-year SSL Certificates will provide enterprises with a more cost-effective alternative for deploying SSL, eliminating the year-over-year administrative task of renewing a certificate.”
VeriSign three-year SSL Certificates can save enterprises up to 24 percent over yearly renewals, and they come with a full set of premium features that are unmatched in the industry. All three-year certificates enable 256-bit SSL encryption for compatible server and browser software, including the Mozilla Firefox browser.
