Fort Worth, Texas - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - October 25, 2005 - Web hosting provider, C I Host, has installed neutral current eliminators (NCEs) and upgraded other power systems at its data centers in Dallas and Chicago.
The increased “overhead” in the power distributions units, up to 30 amp from 20 amp circuits, will enable the system to better handle power spikes from failed power supplies so that such spikes will be less likely to blow breakers.
The addition of NCEs will cleanse the power supply to ensure that the C I Host network and client servers receive the cleanest and most efficient power supply possible.
According to Christopher Faulkner, CEO of C I Host, ”Each of these upgrades will give our customers a higher level of security, knowing that their mission-critical data is secure, their website will be functioning 24-7 and their online-related businesses won’t be interrupted. The NCEs in particular give our customers a new free benefit - less wear and tear on computer equipment and fewer hardware failures.”
Computers, including servers, will last longer and are less likely to overheat when neutral current is eliminated. This is especially important in offices or data centers with large numbers of computers, such as a Web hosting data center.
C I Host increased the core power distribution units (PDUs) and power switching gear (PSG) in Dallas and Chicago.
In Chicago all circuits were upgraded to 30 amp from 20 amp, power distribution panels were expanded and the load on any panel was reduced to less than 60 percent.
In Dallas, the company replaced the core switching gear, upgraded transformers and set an additional transformer from a diverse grid for further power expansion.
Mr. Faulkner explained, ”We also installed cellular-based power monitoring systems that monitor every power panel within our data center. If any panel loses power, the system dials out and notifies our engineers within 30 seconds.”
That alert is extremely helpful in remotes areas of large data canters because a panel that looses power must be repaired within 18 minutes or the entire section of the center could loose power.
”Tracking down small, isolated power problems has been difficult,” Faulkner said. ”This new system and architecture should alleviate that problem.”
C I Host spent $50,000 on the Chicago expansion and $800,000 in Dallas.
