Paris Hilton Steals Christmas, Continuing to Dominate the Number One Search Engine Spot For The Whole Month of December

Web Designer And Part-Time Model Melissa Harrington Is Web’s New Favorite
"Pin-Up" Girl

Teen Heartthrob Actor Jeremy Sumpter, One To Watch

WALTHAM, Mass., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Terra Lycos
(Nasdaq: TRLY), the global Internet Group, today announced the following
information from The Lycos 50(TM), the 50 most popular user searches for the
week ending January 3, 2004. For a complete list of The Lycos 50(TM) and for
in-depth text of The Lycos 50 Daily Report, go to http://50.lycos.com.
Readers of The Lycos 50 can also share their thoughts on Internet trends and
pop culture on The Lycos 50 Blog located at http://lycos50.tripod.com/blog/.

The Lycos 50(TM) Top 10 Search Terms for the Week Ending January 3, 2004:

1) Paris Hilton
2) KaZaA
3) Britney Spears
4) New Year’s Day/Eve
5) NFL
6) Powerball
7) Brooke Burke
8) Pamela Anderson
9) Melissa Harrignton
10) Christmas

Notes of Interest:

Not only is Paris Hilton still number one on The Lycos 50, she actually
kept Christmas out of the top slot during the entire month of December. The
other woman who is making waves is full-time Web designer and part-time adult
model Melissa Harrington (#9), also known as Melissa Lincoln on her private
adult Web site. Harrington was actually ticketed by Lincoln, Nebraska police
last week for posting nude photos of herself taken at a local bar on her
Internet site. The story raised a huge hue and cry about privacy on the Web,
since the police ticketed her for posting the photos rather than for actually
being naked in the bar, and Harrington has gone from unknown girl-next-door
type to a symbol of Internet censorship. The affair interested Web users, who
searched enough for Harrington’s story and her Web site to put her in this
week’s top ten.

Other Notes of Interest:

Diet searches generally all jump onto The Lycos 50 during the week
following New Year’s. The Atkins Diet moved up from number 48 to number 22,
while the South Beach Diet (#49) made its Lycos 50 debut. Trim Spa (#30),
Weight Watchers (#43), and plain old diets (#46) also returned to the list.

One to Watch of 2004:

Jeremy Sumpter appears to be the big teen heartthrob breakout of 2004.
The 15-year-old Sumpter, who plays Peter Pan in the film of the same name, is
getting as many searches on Lycos right now as popular rapper 50 Cent or TV
psychologist Dr. Phil. Sumpter has a history as a young heartthrob — he was
the International Modeling and Talent Association Pre-Teen Male Model of the
Year in 2000.
