Paymentech Garners Prestigious InfoWorld 100 Award; Payment Processor Lauded for Information Security Leadership
DALLAS, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ — Paymentech’s innovative use of a software
application that tests for online security issues won the Dallas-based payment
processor recognition from InfoWorld magazine this month.
Paymentech chose the application as a pre-emptive strike against possible
web attacks. Analysts estimate that web application attacks represent more
than 70% of all attempted hacks and can result in a compromise of sensitive
data and destruction of network resources.
"It’s pretty common knowledge in the IT world that traditional security
measures do not prevent application layer attacks or even recognize them until
after they have occurred," said Bill Kline, Senior Data Security Engineer at
Paymentech. "The web application layer is often considered the weakest link,
so we wanted to create an additional line of defense against any
vulnerabilities."
The software, called the ScanDo Web Application Scanner, was created by
New York-based KaVaDo. It works by implementing a wide array of hacking
techniques to reveal potential web application vulnerabilities.
"It basically will help us create an airtight security environment. We’re
going to be using it on all our web-based applications, not just for
Paymentech, but for our merchant solutions as well," Kline said.
Each year, InfoWorld recognizes 100 companies that honor IT initiatives
making use of innovative technology to further their organizations’ goals.
The awards winners were announced in the magazine’s November issue.
"The InfoWorld 100 recognizes companies like Paymentech that made the best
use of technology to enhance their businesses," said Steve Fox, editor-in-
chief of InfoWorld. "Paymentech built an innovative online security solution
to meet critical technical and business objectives."
Companies were nominated by InfoWorld readers, technology partners and
end-user companies in fall 2003. For the complete list of winners, go to
