Rackspace, a managed hosting company, yesterday announced that it has acquired a 55,000 square foot data center in Grapevine, Texas. The new space doubles Rackspace’s data center capacity with the ability to add more than 20,000 new servers for the company’s growing customer base.
Through this new facility, Rackspace can service its expansion, while providing additional geographic redundancy to new and existing customers. The Grapevine data center will support a multi-homed Cisco Powered Network, featuring Cisco 6500 switches. Redundancy is provided by multiple bandwidth providers and Gigabit Ethernet circuits and the location also has three carrier entry points.
"Our rapid company growth and customer acquisition rate created a need for additional space less than two years after the deployment of our last facility," said Paul Froutan, vice president of engineering, Rackspace Managed Hosting. "Our new facility is an excellent addition to our hosting infrastructure that will support our company’s continued growth. The Dallas area offers great resources, infrastructure and talent to our newest data center."
Rackspace’s new data center offers 24/7 N+1 redundant environmental controls, as well as 24-hour monitoring via CCTV, and additional stringent physical security with card and biometric readers. The facility also has a UPS backup power system in case of an emergency and, in the event of an extended power failure, diesel generators allow for a combined capacity of 12 megawatts.
