Pasadena, California - (Cheap Web Hosting Directory) - July 12, 2007 - Snap Technologies, Inc., operator of search engine, Snap.com, has upgraded the service, with the addition of two new Shots to its Snap Shots service. ProfileShot, which allows for live previews of linked social networking profiles and RSS Shot which renders sites with enabled RSS feeds for quick and easy viewing.
The two new Shots, join a growing list of powerful tools that deliver a range of content directly to website visitors in a format that’s useful and engaging. Over 1 million sites and blogs worldwide have adopted Snap Shots and it is used over 14 million times daily.
ProfileShot delivers up-to-date details about people when it discovers ambient information referencing social network pages. The profile contains the username, age, gender, location, tagline and a photo all contained in the convenient shot window. Links from MySpace are the first to be supported with additional support for major social networking sites in the near future.
RSS Shot provides instant previews of sites enabled with RSS feeds. The RSS Shot will show in the window a summary (including date/time stamp) of the most recent articles posted (typically 2 to 4) from the feed or an excerpt from a linked ‘permalink’ page for the blog.
Matthew Swanson of the MillionRSS project remarked, ”The MillionRSS project, which is working to collect and organize 1 million RSS feeds, has been using the Snap Shots service which our users have found to be absolutely fantastic. When we show a feed to our users, we now have the ability to display a preview of the link they might want to click on before they actually visit the site. Snap Shots saves our users time and also gives us a wonderful way for the MillionRSS project to ‘preview the web’ so to speak. Bottom line: Snap Shots rocks.”
Tom McGovern, CEO of Snap Technologies added, ”ProfileShots and RSS Shots were created because of the popularity of these content types among the Snap Shots community. While it may seem simple, RSS Shot is one of the most technically-challenging Snap Shots we’ve released to date. We think both Shots will be immensely useful and we continue to work on new Shots to further expand the Snap Shots service.”
The technology powering the RSS Shot supports a number of ”ping servers” to allow updating of new posts by the author of the blog in near real-time. Additional overall enhancements to the Snap Shots service include the Zoom feature, which enables anyone to increase (and then decrease) the size of any Snap Shot bubble at will (per the duration of a user session). The Zoom feature is triggered by a small magnifying glass with a + symbol that is now located in the upper right corner of the Bubble. The Zoom feature increases the amount of real estate available for viewing the contents of a shot inline.
