Site5 Internet Solutions, Inc. is giving away hosting to all individuals who unsuspectingly signed up at dummy company “BlastIndex” hoping to earn a free account.

The pseudo-company’s website went online in early October with very little information and a form inviting users to submit their contact information in order to possibly receive a free hosting account from BlastIndex.com–a new hosting company that was scheduled to launch in November. “Despite the fact that the BlastIndex site was advertised only in Site5 staff’s WebHostingTalk signatures, response was very impressive.” said Matt Lightner, Founder and CEO of Site5.com.

The cryptic nature of the BlastIndex website led many to speculate about Site5’s intentions. Regardless, many curious users signed up with hopes of receiving a free hosting account.

But instead of a free account from BlastIndex, those who signed up will receive 12 months of free service from Site5.com, a well-established web hosting brand.

“We wanted to try something clever. So much of today’s online advertising is stale and trite. The BlastIndex project was an effort to explore unique new marketing tactics,” said Lightner. “The project has been a huge success, and will pave the way for more innovative and effective campaigns in the future.”

The BlastIndex website is no longer accepting new registrations.
