TheDogTranslator.com Ships World’s First Dog Translator Device To U.S., Canada
‘PUPular’ Product From Japan Turns Woofs Into Words; Portion of Proceeds
Donated to Anti-Cruelty Society in Dog’s Name
LAKE FOREST, Ill., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ — Freedom of speech has gone to
the dogs. Turns out, they have quite a bit to say, thanks to the Bow-
Lingual(TM) dog translator by Takara Co., the second-largest toy manufacturer
in Japan. Previously available only in Japan where it is a phenomenal
bestseller, the dog translator now converts woofs into English as shipments
begin (this week) through U.S.-based online retailer TheDogTranslator.com.
"With Bow-Lingual and its voiceprint-based technology, dog owners can
finally understand what all those yips and barks mean," said Louis Amoroso,
president of TheDogTranslator.com. "All the rage in Japan, Bow-Lingual has
quickly become one of the most talked about — and woofed about — products of
the year.
"Through our online store, more than 50 million dog owners in North
America can now tap into the craze and learn about the technology behind the
translator," he added. "It is such a breakthrough product that we felt
compelled to launch the only online site exclusively dedicated to marketing
Bow-Lingual and explaining how and why it works. With demand expected to
exceed available units, we anticipate brisk online sales long before the
holiday season. Dog owners everywhere are rushing to hear what all the barking
is about."
TheDogTranslator.com was launched this month exclusively to market the
device and detail the science behind it (shop online at
http://www.thedogtranslator.com). TheDogTranslator.com sells Bow-Lingual for
$99.95 (suggested retail price: $120). Two versions are available, red and
blue, which operate on separate frequencies so owners can interpret multiple
dogs simultaneously.
On behalf of its canine customers, TheDogTranslator.com will donate a
portion of each sale to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (ASPCA) in the dog’s name. Owners register their dog’s name online and
can print out a certificate authenticating the contribution. "If dogs could
talk, they would thank their owners for supporting the ASPCA," Amoroso added.
Bow-Lingual enters the North American market with much fanfare. It was
featured as a TIME Magazine "Best Inventions of 2002," Rolling Stone "Cool
Breakthrough Item," and Reader’s Digest "Import of the Year."
Bow-Lingual is a two-piece digital device that translates barks into
English phrases using voiceprint technology. A small, collar-mounted
microphone transmits barks to the wireless handheld receiver. The receiver
analyzes the voiceprint and displays the emotion category before providing an
appropriate translation, graphics and other data on the LCD screen. Along with
bark translation, the Bow-Lingual handset provides dog-owning tips and has a
Home-Alone feature that logs barks for up to 12 hours while you’re away. The
system has a range of about 30 feet.
The science behind the device is based on recent findings by the
prestigious Japan Acoustic Laboratory. Using digital analysis of voiceprints
and sound-waves, the lab researched thousands of barks from over 80 breeds.
Researchers found that dogs express six moods: happy, sad, frustrated, needy,
on-guard and assertive. Bow-Lingual matches each bark with its mood then
displays a translation (from nearly 200 phrases) that best represents what the
dog is trying to say. A complete description of the Bow-Lingual Animal Emotion
Analysis System is available at TheDogTranslator.com.
