C I Host today announced it has taken into its own hands “the last mile” of underground fiber running to its Texas data center. C I Host’s new strand of dark fiber optic cable runs from the Metroplex’s global bandwidth hub to the Bedford, Texas facility.
That C I Host cable, unlike the phone company cable it replaced, has a dual path for data transmission. The dual path provides redundancy — if part of it goes down, another keeps transmitting data.
“Most hosting companies depend on CLEC (Competitive Local Exchange Carriers) for that last mile of local loop connectivity,” said Christopher Faulkner, CEO of C I Host. “With a redundant POP, we safeguard our customers.”
A single strand of fiber transmits two terabits of information per second. The new C I Host cable includes two strands of fiber, doubling capacity.
C I Host also expanded its network to 5,000 Mbits, or 5 Gbits, by partnering with Level 3 Communications, Cogent Systems, Teleglobe, Broadwing Communications and Aleron for bandwidth.
“We can add enterprise level customers instantly with this bandwidth and our own cable,” Faulkner said.
Other hosts rely on a bandwidth provider, order a new circuit and call the CLEC for that final mile, which can take two to six months.
“We have far surpassed the industry standard,” Faulkner said. “We can turn up any amount of bandwidth that our customers need.”
C I Host consistently has expanded even during the troubled economy, investing $250,000 in new fiber stands, trenching, routing and switching gear at both ends of the network.
The new network segment creates a highly secure connection because the fiber cable doesn’t pass through a carrier’s central office. C I Host’s data integrity is secure and C I Host protects its customers’ service experience.
“We ensure zero downtime service to our customers,” Faulkner said. “Our reputation is based on the service delivered and we will surpass.”
