Sunnyvale, California - (via THE HOSTING NEWS) - August 26, 2005 - eCommerce stores hosted on the Yahoo Merchant Solutions platform are testing a completely redesigned beta version of the checkout process designed to increase conversion rates and decrease shopping cart abandonment. It is estimated that over 35,000 small businesses use the service for their online stores.

The new Checkout Manager allows merchants to customize their stores’ checkout pages to match the look and feel of their own branding. Checkout page content and fields can be customized as well, to enable merchants to collect information unique to their businesses. Merchants can also control the font, colors, button appearance, and the content displayed in designated navigation areas across the site, from initial browsing to the checkout pages.

Another new feature of Yahoo’s Checkout Manager is the ability to choose single or multi-page checkout options. This allows the merchant to choose the checkout process that demonstrates the highest conversion rate among its online shoppers. New shipping and coupon calculators have been added to the shopping cart page. Buyers can therefore easily determine the entire cost of a purchase at the beginning or end of checkout.

Various sources have speculated that the new beta checkout system is being tested now - in order to bullet-proof it in time for the lucrative holiday shopping season.
